After just fitting a Hypervolt Home Pro 3 charger this week, I linked it with the OVO Anytime app, which was installed on my iphone (latest iOS version). I was asked to update the Anytime app to the latest version, but instead it stated the Anytime app was no longer available and I would have to follow the link to install and use the new OVO Charge app. The Anytime app was no longer available to download or access.

I charged the EV (two charging sessions); approximately, a 2 hour session and then an additional session around 2.5 hours. Both sessions were showing as PAYG smart charging on the OVOCharge app (not boosted sessions). At the end of the sessions, I expected to see total energy used (and eligible for PAYG discount rate of 7p per unit - I’m fortunately still eligible for that rate as part of the VW discount scheme); for the two sessions of around 30-32kWh should be recorded by the OVO Charge app. However, it shows only 7 kWh recorded, boasting an expected, grand saving of 84p.

However, I opened the Anytime app still on my ipad, (ignored the request to update) and found the Anytime app, though no longer supported or downloadable still functions, at least for the time being. The Anytime app showed the charging session activity used 28.3kWh energy, indicating a saving of £4.80 (i.e. to be refunded at the end of the month) for the PAYG session(s). Very different from the values assigned by the new OVO Charge app, and nearer to what I was expecting.

Clearly the new OVO Charge app is faulty and not recording all eligible charging session use, which would attract the reduced tariff. It is clearly not conflicting charging schedules, faulty car data etc., or other reasons OVO give for failing to record reduced-rate sessions. Otherwise the Anytime app would show the same wildly inaccurate activity session records.

The new OVO Charge app - unpopular? Yes.
Inaccurate? Clearly.
Fraudulent? Over to you OVO….answers on a postcard please (there…one for the teenagers!)
